Wilmington, North Carolina

Leaving the mountains and forests, I made my way to Wilmington, NC, where I have the privilege of staying with my daughter Robin’s family. I have been here about 3 weeks now, sharing a bedroom with my 6-year-old granddaughter, Tilly.

It has been pretty chill, with a lot of hanging out and just living. There have been a couple of trips to spend time at the beach with family friends, a trip to Cape Fear Museum with Robin and Tilly, a visit to the North Carolina Aquarium with Tilly, cribbage games with friends, dance and gymnastic classes with Tilly, and working on puzzles.

This has been a special time for birthdays. It is the first time in years that I have been here on Robin’s, or my grandson Anthony’s birthdays. I was able to celebrate Robin’s with family and friends, and take Anthony out on a birthday dinner date.

I also had the privilege of attending the open house at Jacob’s school for his high school freshman year. I was so impressed with the school and his teachers it made me want to go back to school!

Being outside has been a challenge! It has rained about 3 out of every 4 days. And there are these tiny mosquitos that are black and white striped. I know Minnesota’s state bird is the mosquito, but at least you can see them!

One of the best parts of being here is seeing and participating in the wonderful community around my child’s family – family friends, the church community, coworkers, etc. People the kids have grown up with, and I have the privilege of witnessing the connections and interactions. It warms a mother’s heart to know her daughter, husband and kids have such wonderful people around them who love them and are there for them.
